danielle emsick’s “faces” opens oct. 3
BENSON - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Ming Toy Gallery is pleased to host "Faces" by Omaha artist Danielle Emsick, a breast cancer survivor. The opening reception is Friday, Oct. 3, from 6:00 to 9:00pm at 6066 Maple Street (we're sandwiched between the fabulous Au Courant and the amazing Legend Comics and Coffee). Wear pink!
Emsick has been surrounded by music and art her entire life. She describes her mom, Helen Patane, as a passionate artist who greatly influenced her daughter.
Emsick began creating art in 2018 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. "This path changed my life in all aspects," she said. "I began putting charcoal and paint to canvas, wood and stones, then began using tools other than brushes."
Part of the La Casa family restaurant on Leavenworth, Emsick has experimented with cardboard pizza scrapers and ziplock bags when applying paint to her surface of choice.
This 2D exhibition also includes a statue of the Virgin Mary that Omaha's Holy Cross Catholic Church commissioned Emsick to refurbish. Viewers can compare before and after photos as well as the finished piece.
"Faces" is on display through Oct. 25 at Ming Toy Gallery. Starting Oct. 3, regular gallery hours are:
Wednesday: 1:00 to 6:00pm
Thursday: 1:00 to 8:00pm
