glass exhibition by brothers opens sept. 5

BENSON - Ming Toy Gallery is pleased to host "Pane in the Glass," an exhibition by Pat Dunning and Jerry Dunning, during the month of September. The opening reception is Friday, Sept. 5, from 6:00 to 9:00pm at 6066 Maple Street in downtown Benson (we are sandwiched between Au Courant and Legend Comics and Coffee).

Pat, from Omaha, and Jerry, from Council Bluffs, have been brothers for 23,000+ days (some days, they say that number feels low). They sketch, argue, revise and repeat. Pat cuts the glass, and Jerry runs the kiln. Somehow, it works.

They don't like each other's taste (geometric, flashy, organic - take your pick), but their mother taught them not to say anything if they couldn't say something nice. So they don't.

They've always talked about doing a show. Now here they are, still experimenting, still figuring out how it's done. Their work invites viewers to feel something - ideally, the sense that "I could do that."

For those who want to give working with glass a try, they can do so at Glass Fusion Studio (for more info on how to do that, email jerry@glassfusionstudio.com).

"Pane in the Glass" is on display through Sept. 27 at Ming Toy Gallery. Regular hours are Wednesday and Friday from 1:00 to 6:00pm, Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm and by appointment (call or text 402.681.1901).

The gallery is not open between exhibitions.
