amy webb’s “hello, goodbye” opens july 3

BENSON – Ming Toy Gallery is pleased to showcase “Hello, Goodbye” – a solo exhibition by Amy Webb – during the month of July. The opening reception is Friday, July 3, from 6:00 to 9:00pm at 6066 Maple Street in downtown Benson (we’re right between Au Courant and Legend Comics & Coffee).

Webb, originally from the American South, has spent the past year in Omaha in conjunction with her partner’s internship in the Midwest. Her work examines the emotional complexities of rural life, engaging themes of spiritual fear, memory, nostalgia and environmental unease.

Webb is influenced by American Realism, Southern storytelling traditions and years spent as a farm laborer in Mississippi. With an acidic palette, she often creates dark, atmospheric landscapes conveying the psychological weight of place. “I’ve long made art about where I was from, but I couldn’t truly appreciate ‘home’ until moving away,” she said. “In the meantime, I also came to appreciate an entirely new landscape, climate and community here in Omaha.”

Webb earned her BFA in painting from the University of Mississippi, where she was awarded the Outstanding Painting Award. She has exhibited nationally, with recent shows in the Southeast as well as Philadelphia and Chicago.

“Hello, Goodbye” is on display at Ming Toy Gallery through July 25. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday from 1:00 to 6:00pm, Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm and by appointment (call or text 402.681.1901).
