BENSON – Ming Toy Gallery is pleased to host Bishop Frost’s “Gods and Monsters” during the month of November. The opening reception is Friday, Nov. 6, from 6:00 to 9:00pm at 6066 Maple Street in downtown Benson. (We’re right between Au Courant and Legend Comics and Coffee.)
Frost received his bachelor’s degree in sculpture from Wayne State College and is represented by Modern Arts Midtown Gallery in Omaha. His artistic influences are mid-century jazz, voodoo and fine cuisine, as well as the various sciences, history, math and other fields of study.
The artist considers himself a Pop Surrealist, influenced by Robert Williams, Glenn Barr, Niagara, Travis Louie, Mark Ryden, Frank Kozik, Ron English and Tara McPherson, to name a few. Frost said he hopes viewers come away from his work feeling unsettled, delighted and discombobulated. He is adept in multiple media and disciplines, including drawing, painting, sculpture and refuse "reconfiguration".
“Gods and Monsters” runs through Nov. 28. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday from 1:00 to 6:00pm, Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm and by appointment (call or text 402.681.1901).
