nolan tredway’s “alternate plains” opens May 2
BENSON - Ming Toy Gallery is pleased to host Nolan Tredway's "Alternate Plains" during the month of May.
The opening reception is Friday, May 2, from 6:00 to 9:00pm in conjunction with Benson First Friday. The gallery is located at 6066 Maple Street in downtown Benson between Au Courant and Legend Comics & Coffee.
Found covered in moss near the Korvik River, Nolan was raised in the Great North by a mountain and a burning forest. He learned the art of storytelling from his time among the Volkos, before studying art at the University of Nebraska and Fundacion Ortega y Gasset in Toledo, Spain. He is currently the co-director of Tugboat Gallery and founder of the performance art collective, kindred. (We think Nolan should write everyone's bio.)
He describes the exhibition below.
"'Alternate Plains' is an interdisciplinary exploration of speculative futures, alternative histories and unseen presents based in the landscapes of the Great Plains. While often written off as a vast emptiness, the unobstructed views and open fields provide an infinite realm of possibilities. Drawing from history, science fiction, naturalism and a deep love for cryptids, I want to present my home as fertile grounds for dreaming new worlds and to experience the Plains as a place of magic and hope."
The exhibition runs through May 31. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday from 1:00 to 6:00pm, Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm and by appointment (call or text 402.681.1901).
